Right in the action!!

Luxembourg’s 3D films will have a successful baptism of fire. Indeed, Utopolis has entered the new era of cinema by launching Disney’s 3D Meet the Robinsons last March. Although films in relief existed in quite an indefinite and questionable way in the 50s, they do not have that “gimmick” side anymore and have become a true standard and a genre of its own.

As it is increasingly spreading over the world, digital innovation has successfully filled the gaps of 3D technology and has presented it from a new perspective.

Tomorrow’s films at Utopolis and Ciné Utopia would not have become a reality without the innovative and willing pioneer spirit of Utopia S.A.This new step was reached by establishing and completely deploying digital projection technology.

As early as June 2006, Utopolis was the first cinema in Europe to be fully equipped with digital technology. High-quality installation procedures have evolved over time to become a today’s high resolution standard: JPEG 2000.

High-definition projection offers flawless image quality and avoids any damages to an argentic copy when operating it, while also providing films with outstanding added value in comparison with other media, such as television.

This is all the more noticeable as this technological breakthrough is turning cinemas into brand new venues for events of all types, whether as sports arenas, concert halls or gigantic video game rooms. Indeed, the broadcasting of the football world cup, New Year’s concert in Vienna or a network portion of any video game on a giant screen has become an exceptional event of outstanding quality.

Along with the introduction to a new mode of entertainment comes what Hollywood’s current big producers (such as James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson) call quite legitimately “tomorrow’s cinema technology”, i.e. three-dimensional films.

In the upcoming month, this new cinema revolution - the first one since the transition from black-and-white to colour films – will include a breathtaking selection of blockbuster productions. With educational documentaries such as the first Dinosaurier: Giganten Pentagoniens 3D, to be presented at Utopolis as early as late July, and fiction films like straight from Hollywood, you will discover a new to way to enjoy cinema.

Going to the cinema will not only mean watching a film, but it will also take you right into the action, thanks to this technological breakthrough that announces one of the most exhilarating eras in the history of cinema.
